SpaceX has unveiled the third generation of its Starlink terminal, introducing notable enhancements to its design and functionality. This iteration sheds its motor for position adjustment, opting for a stand instead. While initially available to a limited group of U.S. buyers, the revamped terminal boasts a sleeker and lighter profile.
The new Starlink terminal features a 10% increase in its field of view, promising improved connectivity. Notably, the motor-less design contributes to a streamlined and more compact build. The device also achieves an enhanced level of protection against dust and moisture, now boasting a robust IP67 rating, allowing immersion in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes.
In SpaceX’s installation guidance, users are advised to determine the nearest satellite’s position using their smartphones, utilizing this information for the manual setup of the terminal with the provided stand.
The package includes the Starlink terminal, kickstand, 3rd generation router, Starlink cable (15m), AC cable (1.5m), and a power supply. The terminal, with an electronic phased array antenna, weighs 2.9 kg (6.4 lb) and demonstrates resilience with an IP67 Type 4 degree of protection against external influences.
Accompanying the terminal is the Starlink WiFi router, boasting Wi-Fi 6 technology, tri-band radio, and compatibility with Starlink Gen 2 and Gen 3 Mesh nodes. The router’s compact design, weighing 0.57 kg (1.25 lbs), emphasizes efficiency and connectivity, supporting up to 235 devices.
Completing the ensemble is the Starlink power supply, featuring an IP66 Type 4 degree of protection against external influences. With a weight of 0.65 kg (1.43 lbs), the power supply operates in a temperature range from -30°C to 60°C (-22°F to 140°F), offering stability and reliability.
