Samsung’s New Frontier: Manufacturing Phones in Egypt

In a strategic move that might surprise many, Samsung is expanding its manufacturing prowess to Egypt. The Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has confirmed the establishment of a state-of-the-art smartphone manufacturing plant in the city of Beni Suef, covering a sprawling area of 6,000 square meters.

This venture is set to generate approximately 1,400 direct and indirect jobs, significantly boosting employment opportunities in the Upper Egypt region. The decision to establish the plant was solidified during a meeting between Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, and Jun Soo Jung, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Samsung Egypt.

While construction is slated to commence in the fourth quarter of this year, it’s unlikely that the factory will start producing phones before the next year. The new facility is poised to cater specifically to the burgeoning demand in the Egyptian market, aligning with Samsung’s commitment to meeting local needs efficiently.

While the Egyptian plant might primarily focus on the domestic market, it marks a significant stride for Samsung, demonstrating their continuous efforts to diversify their global supply chain. Notably, Samsung’s major manufacturing hub remains in Vietnam, where phones are produced and shipped worldwide. The company has also recently expanded its production capacity in India, a move aimed at both fulfilling local demand and enhancing its global supply network.

Egypt’s inclusion in Samsung’s manufacturing map highlights the country’s growing significance as a hub for technology production. As construction begins, the region anticipates an economic boost, marking this initiative as a win-win for both Samsung and the Egyptian workforce. Samsung’s decision not only enriches local employment but also strengthens Egypt’s position in the global technology manufacturing landscape.
