Samsung teased tech enthusiasts with a glimpse of its upcoming fitness innovation – the Galaxy Ring smart ring. Described as both “powerful and affordable,” this health-centric device has piqued interest, although details remain scarce with only a render and a name unveiled.
Hints of the Galaxy Ring surfaced last year when Samsung filed a patent for a smart ring boasting ECG capabilities and smart home management. The Health app also dropped subtle hints about this futuristic accessory.
In an exclusive interview with Techradar, Patrick Chomet, Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience, shared insights into the Galaxy Ring’s unique features, especially focusing on its capabilities related to sleep. Chomet hinted at a comprehensive package within Samsung Health, emphasizing the fusion of hardware and software for an unparalleled user experience.
“We’re creating some things with Samsung Health that are really amazing (regarding sleep). There’s already hardware and software. But we’re looking to create a complete package that people will use at scale. That will happen later this year,” revealed Chomet, sparking anticipation for the official Galaxy Ring launch.
Although specifics such as specs, pricing, and release dates are yet to be disclosed, Samsung’s strategic unveiling aligns with expectations of a full announcement at the upcoming Unpacked event, anticipated between July and August. Coinciding with a significant Health program update later this year, the Galaxy Ring is poised to integrate seamlessly with Samsung’s evolving ecosystem.
While Samsung enters the smart ring arena, it’s worth noting the presence of competitors like Oura, which introduced a similar device in 2022. With capabilities encompassing sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring during workouts, and daily activity measurement, the Galaxy Ring is poised to tread familiar ground while leveraging advancements in AI for enhanced features.
